Media Combiner 1900 - Product description

The ARG Media Combiner is used by many of the world’s leading distribution companies to transmit multi-programme transport streams to satellite uplink facilities, TV transmitter networks and cable TV head-ends. Proven reliability, ease of installation and transparency to any DVB-ASI signal contribute to its global reputation as a world-class product.

Multiple ASI and E1 user ports make it ideal for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), including Single Frequency Networks and Digital Radio (DAB) distribution. Any combination of up to eight ASI, E1 or T1 user ports may be installed in each chassis.

The ARG Media Combiner 1900 series is available with different network interfaces:

  • 1934 - 34 Mbit/s E3
  • 1945 - 45 Mbit/s DS3
  • 1915 - 155 Mbit/s either electrical G.703 or Sonet OC-3
  • 1900E - Gigabit Ethernet electrical or optical via SFP
  • 1900EX - Dual Gigabit Ethernet with integral fast ethernet switch

The network interface can be easily changed, for example a DS3 card can be swapped for Fast Ethernet/GigE. In this way, the Media Combiner evolves with network requirements as new services are introduced and utilised.

All Media Combiners with software release v10 and above include ARG's Acu-Sync Technology which ensures network jitter, variable delay or SDH pointer adjustments do not effect the delivery of the DVB-ASI streams.

Each ASI channel of the Media Combiner (up to 8 ) is channelized making it impossible for one PID, or interactive data stream to interact with a neighbouring ASI  channel. Separate multiple DVB-ASI multiplexes can be sent over a Media Combiner link with confidence.
The Media Combiner does not use bit or packet stuffing and in concert with Zero Jitter, thanks to Acu-sync technology, delivers all Mega-frame Initialisation Packets (MIPs) safely and correctly whenused for SFN distribution.

Dual power supplies and a large installed base contribute to a proven MTBF of over 30 years. The speed of installation and commissioning, requiring no special tools or a computer interface, minimises staff training and significantly reduces cost of ownership.

An intuitive front panel provides local set up and control. A web server interface and SNMP capability provide remote management and linkage to third party network control systems.

The Media Combiner integrates perfectly with the ARG FLEX 2400 protection switch to provide simple 1+1 and dual link configuration.
